Ms. Martinez is licensed to practice law in Colorado, Montana and Wyoming.
Ms. Martinez focuses her practice on criminal defense, real estate, child legal representation, and collaborative family law cases .
For many years, prior to becoming an attorney, Ms. Martinez worked in the finance industry as a Vice President of commercial loans. After graduating from law school, she practiced in Montana for a large firm where she gained experience in complex commercial transactions and litigation. She then acted as general counsel for a financial holding company and its subsidiary bank and wealth management company where she had exposure to a variety of legal transactions including special asset workouts, restructures and private offerings.
Most recently, prior to joining Gail C. Harriss, she worked as a Deputy District Attorney prosecuting for La Plata County, Colorado. Ms. Martinez is a strong, forceful respected advocate and pursues justice for her clients. Her litigation, finance, business, criminal defense and overall legal experience, provides her with a unique skillset to assist in a variety of legal matters meeting her clients’ expectations and assisting them in their cases.
Ms. Martinez was a volunteer Firefighter and EMT for Jackson Fire/EMS for a series of years until she recently moved back to Colorado where she was born and raised. She was the President of the Southwest Colorado Bar Association. She now spends her free time swimming, running, skate skiing, racing mountain bikes and enjoying the outdoors of Colorado. Ms. Martinez is also a founding member of the Family Law Collaborative of the San Juans, a group dedicated to facilitating better outcomes for families going through divorces or other family law issues.
Gail C Harriss
Ms. Harriss has over thirty years of legal experience representing disabled individuals in social security disability and SSI claims and injured workers in workers’ compensation claims.
She is not currently accepting any new cases.
She has represented injured workers in hearings before the Office of Administrative Courts. She has also represented injured workers in appeals to the Industrial Claim Appeals Panel, the Colorado Court of Appeals and the Colorado Supreme Court.
She has represented disabled individuals in social security disability claims in hearings before an Administrative Law Judge. She has represented disabled individuals in appeals to the Appeals Council, Social Security Administration, the United States District Court for the Districts of Colorado, New Mexico and Utah, and before the United States Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit.
Since September 1987, Gail Harriss has worked as a lawyer in Southwest Colorado representing injured workers in workers’ compensation claims and disabled individuals in social security disability claims. Her office is in Durango, Colorado.
She first worked as an associate for Dawes and Crane, P.C. In January 1992, Gail Harriss and Robert Dawes formed Dawes and Harriss, P.C. They worked together for the next nineteen and a half years. Gail Harriss then formed her own firm, Gail C. Harriss, LLC.
In October 2014, Gail Harriss was pleased to have Tina Martinez join her law firm. The firm name was changed to Harriss & Martinez, LLC.
Gail Harriss is currently active in Indivisible Durango. She is co-facilitator of the Environment/Climate Committee. She has volunteered for various non-profit organizations in Southwest Colorado over the past thirty years. She has served on the Board of Directors of the Southwest Bar Volunteer Legal Aid, Inc. She has served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Southwest Colorado, Volunteers of America, Southwest Advisory Board and the Women’s Resource Center. She volunteered as Race Director for the Kennebec Challenge Mountain Runs. She has volunteered at other races and other local events.
In her free time, Gail enjoys running, biking, hiking, backpacking, swimming, skiing, playing music, reading and traveling.
